Hazmat CSA Violations
Our latest CSA scores have been released and our Hazmat score has risen to an unacceptable level. Every Hazmat load must be properly secured, placarded, routed on Hazmat routes and be accompanied by the appropriate paperwork. It is critical that every Hazmat load is properly secured and placarded. The Hazmat CSA score is calculated based off Hazmat related violations identified during DOT inspections. All violations are rated on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the most severe viol

Steer Tire Wear
We wanted to send out a brief reminder to all drivers to adapt driving behavior to maintain tire wear. Tires are the most expensive aspect as far as maintenance goes. Luckily there are a few habits we can adapt to greatly decrease the wear and tear of the road. Tire inflation, make sure that the pressure is at the proper amount (usually 110 psi). Another element to watch for is aggressive driving behavior, which includes eliminating quick acceleration and quick stopping behav

City Work
Although city work is something many of our drivers do not enjoy, it ends up saving the entire fleet a lot of time every week. We wanted to stress the importance of city work and how it is a benefit to other drivers, our customers, and thus the entire company. The term “city work” refers to any work of transporting empty trailers to customer lots so they can load the trailer the night before dispatch. The operations team tries to avoid using drivers to do city work, but since

Tire Pass Program at Loves Truck Stops
This article was written by Steve Von Behren, company driver. As an over the road driver, I find it difficult and time consuming to check my tire’s air pressure as often as I should. Finding the air hose location can be tricky, using the hose located at the fuel islands can be trickier, and it holds up drivers in line behind you. I recently tried the Loves Tire Pass Program, and it was a great time saver. An attendant there checked my air pressure while I was fueling, and the

Summary of Weekly Operations Meeting
Everyday we hold an Operations meeting with the entire company at 10:00AM to make sure we are maximizing our resources and service initiatives. We wanted to make sure that everyone in the company is on the same page, especially in terms of our value of good communication between driver and driver managers. These meetings are how the driver managers communicate to us what is happening in the trucks of our drivers. We wanted to briefly summarize the content of these meetings. W

New Grease Packs
We wanted to tell everyone about the new grease packs that we have been using to keep the fifth wheel lubed. These packs are available to every driver in our fleet. We used to have large barrels full of grease available in shop for drivers to come and grease their fifth wheels, but that process proved to be extremely messy and ineffective. The new process comes in the form of the new grease packs. We keep them in the storage trailer in Effingham and also have these grease pac

Fun-Fact Friday
Do you have any fun facts to share? We could use your help. Every Friday during our Operations meeting, our office shares a collection of fun facts. Anyone in the office is able to submit facts for Fun-Fact Friday, and we wanted to extend the offer to our drivers as well! We would love to hear any fun facts you have to share. Not only will your facts be shared during our Friday Operations meeting, but a collection of all of them will be posted in the Weekly, which means you a

Fog Weather Incident: Wisdom and Tips
Lately we have been seeing a lot of fog on the roads. Foggy conditions can be tricky for industry drivers because although the environment has potential to be extremely dangerous, on the surface it can seem unchallenging and manageable. We wanted to remind everyone to be wise about deciding when to drive in foggy weather and provide tips on how to safely venture into the thickest of fog if driving under these conditions is absolutely necessary. Last week we had a driver take
